River Gate (circa 2017)
Michael Amescua
DESCRIPTION: painted steel sculptural double gate and fence mounted with individual metal sculptures of local wildlife (e.g., great heron) and native granite stone
Amescua's River Gate is one in his series of sculptural steel gates providing access to the Los Angeles River Greenway Trail at different locations. This heron-themed River Gate installation is unusual as a collage of sculptural features within the Gate's river-flow design, incorporating local granite stones, a life-size great heron sculpture, and sculptures of other Los Angeles River flora and fauna. Amescua's Heron River Gate is directly adjacent to the Lewis MacAdams Monument (2017) by Eugene Daub.
