DESCRIPTION: station art installation of three 108-inch high by 56-inch wide by 44-inch deep tapered triangular stainless steel sculptures, mounted on 9-inch high by 98-inch by 98-inch black-tinted concrete bases; with p.m. lighting
McRight created this 3-piece sculpture to pay homage to La Verne’s history and architecture, as well as to the community’s historical and cultural connections to water and citrus. The sculptures are intended to reflect the steps of an orchard ladder, both literally and metaphorically, with the repeating zig-zag pattern representing an ancient symbol for water. Additionally, the sculptures' arrow-shaped bases evoke nearby Arrow Highway, each "pointing" to one of three community features: downtown La Verne, University of La Verne, and Pomona Fairplex.
