Idaho Gate (1912)

DESCRIPTION:  four Craftsman-style masonry gates of granite field stone and brick, with 2-foot by 2-foot Batchelder tile insets

This sculptural gate in the Craftsman style is both public art and historical landmark, and it serves as the Idaho Avenue entrance to Palisades Park, whence its name.  The City of Pasadena believes the gate was designed and constructed by renowned architects  Charles Sumner Greene and Henry Mather Greene.  The Batchelder tile insets are by Pasadena-based Ernest Batchelder and depict bird and grape leaf motifs that were highly popular in early 20th century Craftsman style designs.
