"Water Street: River of Dreams" (2003) by Cheri Gaulke

DESCRIPTION: Station art consisting of:

  • cast bronze sculpture of a Tongva woman drawing water

  • stream landscape of glass-embedded pavement and cascading rock and concrete

  • 35-foot long "story fence" triptych of steel panels with quotes from a Tongva priestess, text from Tongva lore, and contemporary poetry

  • coyote paw and leaf pavement impressions

Cheri Gaulke's concept for the Cypress Park Gold Line Station is based on the nearby confluence of the Los Angeles River and the Arroyo Seco. The theme of flowing water begins with the Tongva woman sculpture and continues downhill with the cascading stream landscape.
