Blue Line Oasis (1996)
Lynn Aldrich
DESCRIPTION: station art consisting of:
Lynn Aldrich' s pavement mosaics contain poetic themes of human emotions with water. The pavement mosaics lead toward a mosaic of blue and green waves breaking toward a serpentine walk that continues up to a station platform kiosk of "wishes" from local youth.
Artist's Statement: “In my work, I explore the metaphors inherent in everyday objects, in particular sites or situations, and in our natural surroundings. So I was attracted first to the name of this station, Artesia, which means ‘…a place with a well where water rises to the surface from its own internal pressure.’ From there I drew metaphors for contemporary urban experience and our constant striving for renewal.” MetroArt
