DESCRIPTION: 89-inch high by 57-inch wide wall-mounted ceramic tile and glass mosaic Jost's mosaic depicts a late afternoon scene of surfers with their boards on the beach, after a day of surfing. The mosaic includes the caption "Photo by Ron Stoner, Courtesy of Surfer Magazine." Ron Stoner was a Dana Point surfer and photographer for SURFER Magazine, and Jost's colorful reinterpretation pays tribute to Stoner's 1968 image of surfers reportedly at "The Ranch" (see below). Lance Jost's mosaic is one of four installed at the Doheny Beach Pedestrian Bridge that was completed in May 2009, and it is partnered with Jost's Breaching Gray Whale (2009) mosaic. Across Pacific Coast Highway are the two other mosaics, Dana Point in 1933 (2009) and Tall Ship (2009), both by Lubika Selecka.
LOCATION: Doheny Beach Pedestrian Bridge, west side of Pacific Coast Highway, Dana Point, California, USA
