Metlox Dog (2004)

Tolkin and Associates

DESCRIPTION:   3-foot by 3-foot by 10-foot long painted fiberglass sculpture with fountain feature, mounted within a 3-foot by 10-foot by 1-foot high pool

Tolkin and Associates created this sculpture and fountain for the Metlox Plaza retail development at the former site of the Metlox pottery (Metlox Manufacturing Co.).  The sculpture is a one-of-a-kind over-sized replica of the cubist dog miniature that was produced at the site by Metlox in the 1940s.  Originally painted red, after some repairs in 2015 it was re-painted matte turquoise blue in 2015 to reflect an original pottery color.1   It was later painted the current red again. 1 Jeanne Fratello, "Why is the Metlox Dog now painted blue? DigMB.com, May 19, 2015
