Cancer...There's Hope (circa 2002)

Victor Salmones

DESCRIPTION:  large cast bronze sculpture copy consisting of eight life size figures of cancer victims moving through a series of squared gateways, fronted by a stepped cobalt blue tile fountain
Salmones designed this multi-piece bronze sculpture to symbolize the recovery stages and hurdles successfully overcome by cancer victims.  At the forefront is a figure of a child helped through symbolic stages by two adults.  It is the focal piece of San Diego's Cancer Survivors Park which includes these other features:  a 40-foot wide blue tile cascading fountain, the Road to Recovery Plaza, and the Positive Mental Attitude Walk with 14 pillar-mounted inspirational quotations.
This large sculpture is one of several copies of Salmones' original work that exist throughout the United States and specifically designed for cancer survivors' parks and memorials.
