DESCRIPTION:  10-foot high bronze statue of Spain's King Carlos III, mounted on a 4-foot square concrete plinth with bronze dedication plaque

King Carlos III of Spain (1759-1788) authorized the founding of El Pueblo De La Reina De Los Angeles in 1781, which formally establishing the settlement of what is now the City of Los Angeles.  
The statue was presented to the City in 1976 in honor of the 200th anniversary of American independence, and it was dedicated in the Plaza by the King and Queen of Spain, Don Juan Carlos I and Doña Sofia, on September 30, 1987.
