"The Seven Centers" (1993) by Renée Petropoulos

(Formerly known as "Painting With Multiple Centers")

DESCRIPTION: 36-foot by 36-foot acrylic paint mural, painted on the ceiling of the main lobby of the Central Library
Petropoulos' work is intentionally asymmetrical so that as the viewer moves through the lobby the perception of the piece shifts. In Petropoulos's words, asymmetry means that "there is no privileged vantage point."
