"Trolley" (date and artist unknown)

DESCRIPTION: 5-foot high by 4-foot wide stencil-cut painted steel sculpture

This stencil-cut sculpture evoking the Pacific Electric trolley or "red car" (in operation 1901-1950) serves as a marker for the Euclid Avenue entrance to the Pacific Electric Bike Trail. It is part of a series of 10 black-coated stencil-cut images installed at approximately the same time throughout the city of Upland, some of which serve more as pseudo-signage for commercial businesses than as public art, such as the coffee cup, hammer, tractor, and mortar and pestle sculptures.
