DESCRIPTION:  7-foot cast bronze statue of Ludwig van Beethoven, mounted on a 4-foot granite plinth with an engraved dedication

Foerster's 1932 statue depicts Beethoven in a thoughtful stance with a downward gaze and hands behind his back.  The dedication plaque states it is "dedicated to William Andrews Clark, Jr., founder of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra" and "erected by the personnel of the Philharmonic Orchestra."
Excerpt from the 1932 installation ceremony:  "The statue symbolizes the aspirations and triumphs of the many who have labored here to perfect in Southern California a love for the art of music, among whom the first place is justly accorded to William A. Clark."  Los Angeles Times, Oct 17, 1932
