Memorial Fountain (1962)

James Fickes and David Chapple

(also known as Peacock Fountain)

DESCRIPTION:  approx. 5.5-foot high by 24-foot diameter ceramic tile mosaic fountain, with a 5-foot bronze peacock sculpture (2002) by David Chapple mounted in the center of the fountain on a 4-foot stone pedestal

Although this large fountain is popularly called Peacock Fountain, it was commissioned by the Arcadia Rotary Club in 1962 as a war memorial and is referred to as Memorial Fountain in McAdam's and Snider's 1981 history of Arcadia:  "Arcadia: Where Ranch and City Meet."
In 2002 the fountain was repaired and the city commissioned David Chapple's peacock sculpture for the fountain's center.  The city later re-dedicated the fountain as a memorial to the victims of 9/11.
