Venice Public Art Walls

DESCRIPTION:  Free-standing two-sided concrete walls and structures serving as temporary and individual graffiti mural spaces

This unique Venice Beach installation of free-standing walls (formerly known as "Venice Graffiti Walls" or "Venice Art Walls") serves as a form of public blackboard for graffiti artists.  The walls themselves were installed in 2000, and the mural artwork is ongoing.  The artwork is temporary and there is no fee for painting.  Artists register with the STP Foundation  (424) 264-6564 and agree to basic guidelines.   Additional info.:   "Venice Public Art Walls @ The Venice Boardwalk"
The Venice Public Art Walls have achieved such renown in Southern California that other cities have attempted their own versions, some using temporary spaces such as the Graffiti Yard in Palm Springs, commissioned by the Palm Springs Public Arts Commission, where a downtown vacant lot has been "re-purposed" (see below).
