DESCRIPTION: 7-inch high by 48½-inch wide by 29-inch long cast bronze relief sculpture depicting a large open-book version of Doris Walker-Smith's "Dana Point Harbor/Capistrano Bay: Home Port for Romance," mounted on a 28-inch high by 49-inch by 36-inch tinted concrete base Doris Walker-Smith (1933-2011) was a Dana Point writer and historian who wrote "Dana Point Harbor/Capistrano Bay: Home Port for Romance," considered a definitive history of the area (Los Angeles Times, 11/07/2011). Christopher Pecharka designed this bronze relief sculpture as a "pop-up book" with its characters and events emerging from the open page. The sculpture is installed at the Doris Walker Overlook, the scenic view point of Heritage Park, at the edge of a 28-foot diameter compass pavement medallion with inset bronze letters.
