DESCRIPTION: sculptural and hardscape installation, consisting of
  • 8-foot high by 4-foot diameter "triton sea shell" sculpture faced with ceramic tile mosaic
  • 15-inch by 12-foot curvilinear tinted concrete bench embedded with quartz crystal chips
  • tinted concrete pavement embedded with quartz crystal chips and ceramic mosaic insets of shell images

This sculpture is site 6 of Bartels' eight-site Brea Blackstone public art project along the Santa Fe Road bike and pedestrian path. "Paleontological 1" is Bartels' title for distinguishing this installation from its companion piece "Paleontological 2" directly to the south.
