In May 2019, the fate of di Suvero's sculpture was unclear. After 18 years on Venice Beach as a temporary loan, the City of Los Angeles did not appear ready to pay the $6 million di Suvero requested. (New York Times, April 29, 2019). On Dec. 21, 2019 Senator Bernie Sanders held a campaign rally at the site, attracting thousands to the media event with the sculpture as an iconic backdrop (NBC So. Cal., 12/22/20). Despite ambiguity of the sculpture's ownership, it now appears to have gained the status of a permanent public artwork at Venice Beach.
