Glendora Home: A Slice of Sunshine
(in progress 2025)
Michael Hillman
DESCRIPTION: multiple-component station art project in progress:
Hillman's tile-faced pillars or columns are referred to as "landmark" sculptures. Four of the pillars are mounted on the station platform, and the remaining two pairs are mounted at the nearby east and west street intersections.
The tile-faced pillars and the cuerda seca tile panels depict the flora of Glendora. The ceramic tile art panels for the column bases employ a cuerda seca technique and depict both floral images and geometric patterns.
Hillman's installation will be fully visible when the Glendora Station officially opens in May/June 2025. Of note is Hillman's nearby Historic Glendora Depots (2014), created with Citrus College students, at Glendora Avenue and W. Ada Avenue, one block away. (See also Hillman's Glendora Monument Wall (2007) and Pride of the Foothills (2014).
