two 66-inch high by 103-inch long acrylic murals (by lead artist Akailah Byrd and community members)"
These community murals at the Acoma Unity Center were part of a multi-phase beautification project for Anne Shirrells Park funded by a $140,000 grant from the More Attractive Communities Foundation and $83,000 from municipal funds for sports facilities, Shirrells Garden improvements and public art.
Cervantes' mural covers the entire west side of the Acoma Unity Center and pays tribute to San Bernardino pioneers. Byrd's pair of murals adorns two walls of a nearby enclosure with images of flowers and insects. The murals received assistance from Sixth Ward community members and were dedicated on February 26, 2022.
