This tribute to Hobie Alter titled "Hobie Riding the Wave of Success" is the sculptural feature of the HOBIE ALTER MEMORIAL at the center of Dana Point's Watermen's Plaza. In honor of this surfing, sailing, and skateboarding pioneer, the installation depicts Hobie Alter "hiking out" as his Hobie Cat 14 rides a large wave. The installation is accompanied by information boards detailing Hobie Alter's extensive surfing and surfboard designs, Hobie Cat catamaran design and development, and commercial skateboard design and development.
