DESCRIPTION: 5-foot high by 6-foot wide stencil-cut metal sculpture
This sculpture was originally untitled, and it is an identical version of the City of Upland's Walking Family sculpture at Central Avenue and the Pacific Electric Bike Trail. Its street-facing location allows it to serve as both public-oriented public art as well as an entrance marker for the Foothill Walk residential development. Undated and unsigned, this sculpture appears to be part of a series of ten black painted stencil-cut images installed at approximately the same time throughout the city of Upland. Other sculptures in this series function more as signage marking the entrances of commercial businesses than as stand-alone public artworks. These other commercial signage artworks are exemplified by a coffee cup version in front of a coffee house, a hammer version in front of a hardware store, and a mortar and pestle version in front of a pharmacy.
LOCATION: entrance to Foothill Walk, London Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, Upland, California, USA
