DESCRIPTION:   51-inch high by 68-inch by 49-inch cast bronze sculpture/statue of Ninomiya Sontoku, born Ninomiya Kinjirō, mounted on a 78-inch high by 40-inch wide by 32-inch deep granite-faced plinth

Hannyo's statue depicts Ninomiya as a youth when he was known by his peasant family's name "Kinjiro."  After his parents died while still a youth, he worked his uncle's land and studied on his own.  Popular stories relate how he was reading and studying every possible moment.  The name "Sontoku" is the honorific given him for his many accomplishments and for his philosophy and methodology in land management. e
The original bronze identification plaque that was mounted on the front of the granite plinth has long been missing.
