DESCRIPTION: life-size bronze statue/sculpture of Chiune Sugihara seated on a bench, with an inscribed granite rock with a memorial bronze dedication plaque
This statue of Chiune Sugihara includes bronze identification plaques for the Chiune Sugihara Memorial, Hero of the Holocaust. A quotation from the Talmud ("He who saves one life, saves the entire world."), as well as a tribute inscription, are etched in the granite. As Vice-Consul in Lithuania during World War II, Chiune Sugihara assisted thousands of Jews by issuing them countless transit Visas in violation of Japanese regulations.
The below image of the statue from January 2015 shows vandalism damage to the left side of the jacket from what appears to be adhesive stickers.

INSCRIPTION:

Chiune "Sempo" Sugihara1900 - 1986 A Japanese consul in Lithuania who issued handwritten visas to thousands of Jewish refugees, against the express order of his government, and saved innocent lives during the Holocaust. His courageous efforts put his own family in danger and eventually cost him his career.
