Ramon G. Velazco

DESCRIPTION:  life-size bronze statue/sculpture of Chiune Sugihara seated on a bench, with an inscribed granite rock with a memorial bronze dedication plaque

This statue of Chiune Sugihara is the focal point of the Chiune Sugihara Memorial.  The memorial gives Sugihara the title of "Hero of the Holocaust," and a quotation from the Talmud ("He who saves one life, saves the entire world."), as well as a tribute inscription etched in granite, accompany the statue.  As Vice-Consul in Lithuania during World War II,  Chiune Sugihara assisted thousands of Jews by issuing them countless transit Visas in violation of Japanese regulations.
The below image of the statue from January 2015 shows vandalism damage to the left side of the jacket from what appears to be adhesive stickers.
