DESCRIPTION: 33 multi-colored glass gradient wall-panels embossed with a collage of cultural and architectural images in the style of pencil/chalk "rubbings," enclosing the escalator/stair entrance to the lower level rail platform
Calame's free-standing glass wall panels are designed to be illuminated by sunlight and cast images on the station stairs and escalators that they enclose. At night, interior station lighting from below illuminates the panels, creating a highly visible and colorful pavillion entrance to the Leimert Park K Line station. Calome's choices of embossed images originate from her view of architectural and cultural features of the Leimert Park community.
LOCATION: street-level entrance pavillion, Leimert Park K Line Station, 4332 S. Crenshaw Boulevard, Los Angeles, California, USA
