DESCRIPTION: 21-foot high by approx. 8-foot diameter kinetic stainless steel bust of filmmaker David Lynch
David Černý's kinetic sculpture is designed in horizontal sections that rotate individually, distorting the bust's image until the sections are re-aligned. The stainless steel finish is highly reflective, and the piece is programmed to rotate silently 24 hours a day. Unveiled in April 2024 through its Percent for Art Program, it is one of Santa Monica's most notable public artworks.
Černý's head of David Lynch follows the identical sculptural style as his 2014 "head of Franz Kafka" in Prague, Czechia.
