Florence Nightingale Statue (1936-37)

DESCRIPTION:  9-foot high by 3-foot by 4-foot figurative cast stone statue/sculpture 

This historic sculpture has resided at its lakeside location since its installation in 1937.  After years of deterioration and vandalism, it was restored in 2014 by Rosa Lowinger & Associates.  
Edstrom's sculpture follows in the technical tradition of Ada May Sharpless' 1935 "Lady of the Lake"/"Nuestra Reina de Los Angeles" sculpture, at the edge of Echo Park lake in Los Angeles, in applying what was then the new techniques of cast stone and concrete material.  A copy of this statue/sculpture, also titled Florence Nightingale Statue, resides at Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco, California.
