Watts P-22 Wildlife Mural (2021) by Jonathan Martinez

DESCRIPTION:   approx. 5-foot high by 80-foot long acrylic community mural, depicting native wildlife highlighting Monarch butterflies and a tribute portrait to Los Angeles-area mountain lion P-22

This community mural project was sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation's #SaveLACougars campaign and 3rd Rock Hip-Hop.  Completed in April, 2021, it is Jonathan Martinez's second large mural with the #SaveLACougars campaign - the first one was at Esperanza Elementary School.
Martinez' choice of flora and fauna in the form of Monarch butterflies and the famous Los Angeles P-22 cougar was also influenced by input from local children.
NOTE:  As of early 2023, the center curved section of the mural, depicting the mountain lion P-22, is entirely obscured by a food vendor's semi-permanent installation that includes pop-up tents and tarpaulins in front of and draped over the mural itself (see below).
LOCATION:  southwest corner of Century Blvd. and Compton Avenue, Watts, Los Angeles, California, USA
2023:  VIEWS OF THIS COMMUNITY MURAL ARE OBSTRUCTED BY A STREET VENDOR FROM 6AM TO SUNSET.
